ONLINE SEMINAR: A neurobiological discussion of dog-directed aggression – Remy’s Story

Canine aggression is a term that encompasses a range of behavioral and neurobiological processes. In this seminar we will discuss the categorization of aggression, the underpinning clinical neurobiology of aggressive behavior, and both pharmacological and non-pharmacological methods relevant to its treatment.
A clinical overview of canine aggression will be given, before examining the case of an adult, male, Pit Bull displaying aggressive behavior to other dogs while he is on leash. Neuroscientist Dr. Kathy Murphy, Board Certified Veterinary Behaviorist Dr. E’Lise Christensen, and Certified Dog Behavior Consultant Bobbie Bhambree work together through the different aspects of case workup and case management. The pharmacological and non-pharmacological interventions chosen are discussed in relation to the neurobiology of aggression, and successes and failures of the behavior training plan.
In this comprehensive deep dive into a multidisciplinary approach to case management, you will learn how neurobiology is impacted by both pharmacological intervention and behavior modification techniques. We will discuss the diagnoses of conflict-related aggression and inter-dog aggression, as well as how these may be related to a history of inadequate socialization and malnutrition.
Come learn what’s known about the link between the gut microbiome and canine aggression, the neurobiology of anticipation and prediction, and their relationship to learning and wellbeing. These mechanisms relate to the behavioral modification methods we’ll demonstrate, such as Pattern Games, used to treat this case. Understanding these mechanisms and methods enables us to create evidence based clinical care plans and unify care across disciplines to best support the patient.
This one-day virtual seminar will include live online lectures, video footage taken throughout Remy’s treatment, and live discussion / Q&A sessions. This seminar will be recorded and available to participants after the date of the live seminar, so even if you cannot attend the live seminar, you can still access it later.
The seminar is suitable for veterinary professionals, animal trainers, animal behaviorists and anyone with an interest in the neuroscience of training and behavior.
