Behavior Vets New York

Jennifer Abrams, MA, ACAAB, CSAT

Animal Behaviorist & Behavior Consultant
Pets make us better people and improve our lives immeasurably. This is a gift we can repay by building their confidence and treating them with love, respect, and encouragement. I find great joy in facilitating this communication and helping people build strong, trusting relationships with their pets.

Jennifer Abrams is an Associate Certified Applied Animal Behaviorist (ACAAB) through the Animal Behavior Society, a Certified Separation Anxiety Trainer (CSAT) and a licensed veterinary technician (LVT) with a Masters degree in Animal Behavior & Conservation from Hunter College.

Jen has been a Behavior Consultant with Behavior Vets since 2020; prior to Behavior Vets she worked for nearly a decade with Animal Care Centers of NYC, New York City’s only open-admission, full-service animal shelter, in roles including Behavior Program Manager and Director of Animal Welfare. A committed New Yorker, Jen lives in Brooklyn and finds great value in helping dogs adjust to the difficult city environment, where everything is always a little too close and a little too fast.

Jen has had studies published in the Journal of Veterinary Behavior and Applied Animal Behavior Science, and has spoken at the Animal Behavior Society Conference, the National Council on Pet Population Research Symposium, the Canine Science Conference, and the Humane Society Animal Care Expo. Her work has been featured in the Association of Shelter Veterinarians newsletter, The New York Times, and on Episode 6 of “Shelter Me: Hearts and Paws” on PBS.

Jen has an ongoing interest in canine cognition research and hopes to contribute to the field with future studies and data collection. To that end, starting in the Fall of 2023, she is a PhD student in Cognitive and Comparative Psychology with a focus on the mechanisms of animal learning through CUNY’s Graduate Center. When not working as a Behavior Consultant, Jen is taking classes, reading and writing papers, and working in Dr. Andrew Delamater’s lab at Brooklyn College.
