Behavior Vets New York

Dr. Amanda Modes

Associate Veterinarian
Animals bring immeasurable joy into our lives and in turn we want them to have the best quality of life we can provide. Having spent many successful years focusing on my patients’ physical health, I have come to realize that treating their mental health is just as vital to their well-being. When we approach medicine in this way, we ensure that the Human-Animal Bond can flourish--and that’s the greatest reward we can ask for.

Dr. Amanda Modes, who grew up in Port Washington, NY and Stamford, CT, received her Bachelor of Science degree in neuroscience with a minor in Spanish and concentration in healthcare and society from Lafayette College in 2007. She received her Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 2012.

After veterinary school, Dr. Modes completed a Small Animal Medical and Surgical Rotating Internship at Red Bank Veterinary Hospital in Tinton Falls, New Jersey where she was later employed as a relief emergency veterinarian. Dr. Modes was an Associate Veterinarian at Hawthorne Animal Hospital and Westfield Veterinary Group and Wellness Center where she practiced general and emergency medicine as well as performed dental and surgical procedures.

Dr. Modes holds active veterinary licenses in New Jersey and Colorado and is a member of The American Veterinary Society of Animal Behavior (AVSAB), The American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA), and the NJ Veterinary Medical Association (NJVMA). She is currently working towards becoming a board-certified veterinary behaviorist under the supervision of Dr. Christensen.

Dr. Modes has been a puppy raiser for Guide Dogs for the Blind and a volunteer at the Animal Medical Center in NYC and the Central Park Zoo veterinary department. During vet school, she was a clinic volunteer, treasurer, and team leader for the Wildlife Medical Clinic. She currently volunteers her time speaking to children about veterinary medicine at career events at local schools as well as St. Hubert’s Animal Welfare Center.

In her spare time, she attempts to keep up with her busy family which includes 2 mutts, Macie and Flyer, her husband, and two very active boys. She is always adding to her growing list of desired travel destinations and hopes to check off the last 2 continents.
