For Animal Professionals

For Trainers

If you’re a trainer looking for a Behavior Vet to help a client, we’d love to get to know you. We strongly support the work of excellent behavior consultants and trainers. If you’re not sure if your case needs a Behavior Vet or if you are concerned there could be a medical component to your case, reach out and let’s talk about it.

If you are referring a case to us, please send us all training records prior to the appointment (e: nyc@behaviorvets.com). You are welcome and encouraged to come with your client and their pet to the appointment. We know it can be stressful sharing cases with other professionals and are sensitive to the courage required to reach out for help. We’d love to meet you!

For Veterinarians

Do you have a patient who bites you during exams or whose owners are complaining about behavior issues? We service Manhattan, Westchester, The Bronx, Brooklyn, and Queens. We’re here to help.

If you are a general practitioner or specialist and have a patient exhibiting unwanted behavior, we are here to help. Our team of Behavior Vets and certified behavior consultants can provide your patients with the support they need.

We want to include you in our process for the ultimate continuity of care. We’ll call you after your patient’s appointment to give you a summary and make sure you are on board with our behavior plan, and we’ll email you all notes so you have everything in your records.

If it’s helpful, we can manage your patients veterinary care while they are undergoing behavior modification, and send them back to you when they’re happier at the vet and less likely to exhibit fear and aggression during medical handling.

If you are not sure if a patient needs to see a veterinary behaviorist or work with one of our trainers, or if you have questions about your own behavior cases, please don’t hesitate to call or email us so that we can discuss the case with you. Behavior Vets are not legally able to discuss treatment details with potential clients by phone, but we can speak with primary care veterinarians directly.

If you are referring a case to us, it’s best if you have seen the patient for a physical examination recently. It is also helpful for behavior patients to have screening laboratory work (CBC, chemistry, urinalysis, and thyroid assessment) before their appointments, but this is not a requirement. Please send us all medical records prior to your patient’s behavior vet appointment (e: nyc@behaviorvets.com, f: 646.661.1002).

If you have general questions about animal behavior or how to implement low-stress protocols into your practice, we’re happy to set up a Lunch & Learn where we can introduce ourselves to your staff and answer pressing questions.
